GORGEOUS FULLY RESTORED UPMARKET HOTEL FULLY DESERVING 5 STARSCraig's Royal Hotel - I would argue Ballarat's best - only became a hotel late in its long life. Very substantial internal upgrades to add ensuites and air conditioning to each room were done with great care and reverence to the original building. The result is a gorgeous old building with three floors of dining, lounging and accommodation suites. Staff are very customer focused and clearly are passionate about the hotel. Rooms are not large but that's the pint - they are faithful to the old building's origins. Long corridors filled with period furniture and artwork, sweeping staircases and the original electric hand operated elevator (see video). Valet parking from right in front of hotel and a very good restaurant in house that also doubles as a breakfast room. Separate casual eating and drinking areas in a sumptuous setting. It is definitely the kind of place you'd check in to for a treat.. it's definitely not your run of the mill hotel!! Reception staff are especially delightful. People with mobility issues should call ahead to ensure they book a room that is accessible from the elevator with no stairs between the elevator and room. Dining hall is fully level and could easily accommodate a wheelchair.
Wow! Just loved staying at Craig's Royal Hotel just prior to Christmas. Stunning surroundings, the Shenandoah Suite was beautiful and what a bathroom. Everything was faultless. Breakfast was amazing. Would love to come back and stay again.
Cafe was nice with excellent architecture. Prices were good. Service was kind and food was nice but a bit disappointed as the cafe reheats from it's cabinet. However no hotel with pokies will get 5 stars from me. It's such a grand building but it could be better.
I stayed at the hotel about ten days ago while on a conference in Ballarat. I could not fault the room it was fabulous.The staff were friendly and helpful. Special mention must go to Jason on the front desk and Betty in the restaurant. Both these people gave exceptional and professional service.Unfortunately, I'm from Sydney but will definitely be returning to Ballarat and the Craig next year.
Absolutely stunning building. We didn't stay in the accommodation, just dropped in for coffee. The coffee is fantastic. Beautiful place to look around. The restaurant and bar are very well kept. Very comfortable lounge to sit and take in your surroundings. Highly recommend.
