Super interesting place! Loved reading all the history and seeing all the gold nuggets

Good place to visit to see the the history of gold from the area. Lots of interesting gold nuggets on display that have been found over the years. Also lots of artifacts from the era.

Museum is very interactive and interesting for both kids and adults. It will give you a lot of information about the mining history of Ballarat and the establishment of the city. Also big thanks to volunteer Joan, it was very very pleasant to talk to her and ask her a lot of question about the museum and life of the city. Highly recommended.

It is good and very informative about history of gold but not very interactive though. If you are there for Sovereign hill then there is no point leaving this behind. Price is included in the Sovereign hill ticket. Go to museum first then Sovereign hill otherwise it could feel little bit boring. Sovereign hill and museum are opposite to each other.

An engaging place to drool over gold nuggets of all sizes and shapes. In house are gold nuggets found around the place with some as recent as 2015. Some nuggets are as large as 2000+ ounces. Plus some coins of several nations have been minted in gold to replicate their features, and they look great in gold too! Note: you're not allowed to eat/drink inside, not even a lollipop. So you could either eat outside or pack you stuff and carry.
